Tips for AFM Product Users

Since Lock-In Sanding Sealer is no longer available, use Polyurseal, BP; mix 1/2 Polyurseal with 1/2 DISTILLED WATER- do not use tap water!

When applying Primecoat HPV, which is a very thick material, be sure to stir the contents of the can prior to using. It is also best to apply thin coats rather than thick coats. If it is applied too thick it will take longer to dry and then when applying a second coat, odor may last longer.

Application Techniques to Avoid Bubbles

1. Lightly dampen the surface, with a sponge or a spritzer, so there is water readily available at the right place on the surface. The water will travel through the film so it keeps it wet longer, so the bubbles can have more time to break.

2. Occasionally the product can be thinned with water. Start with 10%. If there is still bubbling, add a little more water.

3. Always use highest quality nylon brushes. Foam tools can be dangerous in terms of creating bubbling. And, spraying will generally be the best application method to avoid bubbles. With respect to brush techniques, apply a nice, full, liberal coat, then come back with the brush, taking the pressure off the brush, and just barely take it across the top of the surface. This tends to break the bubbles.

Remember:
During the cold weather we will not ship any AFM products on a Thursday or Friday, since they are all water based products and can freeze if they are left overnight in a truck.

Elmhurst, IL is a Cool City!

Yes, Elmhurst is a "cool" place to be for those of you who don't know it! However, we do not mean Cool City in the hip, sunglass wearing type "cool."

Recently Elmhurst, IL has joined the organization Cool Cities to help stop global warming. The organization Cool Cities not only brings real solutions at local levels it also showcases solutions for others to model and builds leadership to ensure solutions are implemented at state levels and nation-wide. Hybrid cars, energy efficient buildings, and renewable energy are just a few of the many ways to make this real.

The immediate goals of the coalition includes recognizing Elmhurst for the many programs it has already instituted to protect the environment, attaining agreement from the City Council and the Mayor to sign on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, assisting the city in collecting emissions data, and continuing a broad community outreach.

Joe Muchow, E.L. Foust Co. President, has joined Cool Cities in Elmhurst. It is extremely important to him and the company to help inform the city of Elmhurst and other surrounding areas of the harmful effects of global warming. By being an active member of the group E.L. Foust Co., is continuing their journey of making this a safer place to have a healthy life!
